Targeting Tourism Project
The ground-breaking Targeting Tourism initiative is the biggest collaborative project ever approved by the Scottish Funding Council. This project has allowed us to fast track and support a number of initiatives aimed at improving employer relations and employee participation in education and training related to the Tourism and Hospitality industry.
Tayside is well positioned to lead Scotland's tourism industry with its quality of service and training provision, and the Targeting Tourism project aims to give people the tools and resources needed to ensure success.
Our innovative and creative approach to working with the industry is already showing results and making considerable progress towards the objectives set.
The long-term aim is to place 'employability' as the key economic contribution of education and training. This will be achieved through reaching an in depth understanding of employability skills, continued collaboration with industry leaders and the development of curriculum and programmes which meet the needs of the industry and trainees.
Targeting Tourism understands the importance of recognising the skills of our tourism workforce and the provision of a mechanism to help improve levels of service and professionalism. This is providing a real service to the people who live and work in Tayside, a significant number of whom make their living from the Tourism Industry.
The second stage continues until June 2006 and will produce clear measurable outputs relating to employer commitment, additional training activity, the establishment of dedicated Tayside Tourism Development Centres and the application of new models of curriculum delivery.
Our collaboration is encouraging an innovative approach to streamlining of curriculum development and the establishment of industry links within the Tayside area. This is safeguarding against duplication of effort and inefficient use of resources since as partners we are working towards common goals.
Through collaboration with industry we will facilitate the development of appropriate training, advice and support which will meet the needs of tourism employers and employees, with the aim of encouraging companies to become more successful, competitive and committed to life long learning.
